Today we will install an AEM Cold Air Intake replica for your 2001+ Civic EX 5 Speed Manual Transmission. This generic CAI is an almost exact replicate of AEM's CAI; it was purchased for a cheap price of $63 shipped off of eBay. This particular CAI will also fit other 5 speed manual transmission trims, DX, LX, and HX. Although AEM did design a different CAI for DX/LX trim levels. A review of this intake can be found here.
Tools required: Flat head screw driver, needle nose pliers, 10mm socket, 12mm socket, 19mm socket, 27mm deep socket, socket wrench, socket wrench extensions, torque wrench (optional).
Before performing this install, you will need to remove your stock intake system, to find out how to remove your stock intake system, take a look at the removal instruction here.
Please be sure the car is on a flat surface, and the hand brake is engaged before you work on your car, it's better to be safe than sorry.
First, make sure you have all the parts necessary. The part that came with the box included: two pipes with silver coating, a cone filter, two metal brackets, a transmission bracket (black one pictured below), two rubber couplings, four hose clamps (they're missing one!!), and finally the hose to connect the intake to the PVC valve.
Now, if you take a look at the picture, you'll realize that this particular CAI does not have bracket welded on it! This means we'll have to figure out a way to use those two metal brackets to mount the intake onto the engine. An important component that was included in this CAI will be the transmission bracket (black one pictured), you will need to replace this bracket with the stock one to hold the transmission ground cable, and the clutch line bracket.
Due to the missing clamp, I went and got a few other parts that we will need to install this CAI. I bought some hose clamps that will fit in the ranges of 1 5/8 inches to 3 ½ inches, and got a small bolt and nut just incase I need it (which I didn't) and a 19mm nut (12 x 1.5 ) to mount the transmission bracket.
