K&N FIPK Review                                         Page 1 | 2 | 3 | 4
for 2001+ Honda Civic Coupe/Sedan

Ah... the K&N FIPK.

If you've been trolling around the 7thgencivic forums, you would have heard about this intake system from quite a few members. Whenever someone asks the all-too-often question of: “Which intake should I get?” Among the many brand names replies, the K&N FIPK is perhaps one of the most often-mentioned intake systems for the 7thgen Civic.

One of the more common questions that follow would be: what’s a FIPK? Without going too off topic and stating my opinion on most companies ill placed fond for acronyms, FIPK stands for Fuel Injected Performance Kit.

The 2001+ Honda Civic is of course like all modern cars, equipped with a fuel-injected engine.

The FIPK is, as stated, a performance kit for fuel injected cars. So add that together, you get the Performance Kit for the Civic! Woohoo! PERFORMANCE! (The particular FIPK here is a Generation II model, but for simplicity sake we’ll just refer to it as the FIPK, as most applications now falls in the Generation II product line.)

Now that we got that out of the way, let’s take a look at what comes in the box.

What comes in the box

As you can see above, it comes with a K&N multilayered cotton cone filter (a round tapered type). K&N’s filters are known for their abilities to filter well and provide improved performance. They never need to be replaced as they’re washable and reusable, and on certain applications, they also improve your mileage!

Inside the box, you’ll also get a K&N Recharger filter care kit. This is what you’ll use to clean and service your K&N filter when it becomes dirty. K&N suggest you to service/clean it every 50,000 to 100,000 miles on street driven applications. I clean and service my filter every other oil change, which is about 10,000 miles. This time frame of course depends on your particular application and the environment you drive in. If you do heavy driving or you’re in a dusty/dirty area, you might want to consider servicing your filter sooner. At the end, just make sure you check your filter element periodically for excessive dirt build-up.

Other items in the box include install instructions, K&N stickers, and the CARB-exempt sticker for the FIPK for those that live in states with CARB regulations. (California Air Resource Board) This is definitely a plus for those of us living in California or in states that have adopted the CARB regulations. Having a CARB-exempt aftermarket product enables us to have trouble free checks at SMOG check shops (provided that your other parts are up to specifications and regulations), and fix-it tickets from the authorities. K&N’s FIPK kits are all designed to be street legal applications in all 50-states.
